Dr. Spanglish

about

I'm Doctor Spanglish (Martin Gray) a Kiwi-Brit who started learning Spanish due to a girlfriend from Argentina way back in 2002.

But it wasn't until I went to Guatemala the first time in 2008 that I started to study more intensively and added to that by self-study back in NZ, using Rocket Spanish, Learning Spanish Like Crazy and Short Cut to Spanish, which I found a liking for as it suited my 'learn-on-the-fly-and-worry-about-the-grammar-and-structure-later' kind of attitude.

Further extensive travel and house-sitting from the top of Mexico all the way to the bottom of Panama (including trips to visit my new girlfriend!) since mid 2012 have seen me dramatically improve my confidence and ability to 'have a go', which is a big part of it anyway.

And spending more and more time in San Pedro la Laguna, Guatemala I've added more Spanish and also begun teaching English out of San Pedro Spanish School, swapping-in and out of both languages fairly seamlessly and easily.

I have a TEFLA teaching certificate (Cambridge, UK 1994) and with my new-found confidence and ability have begun forming Spanglish lessons more and more, where I share my less conventional methods, tips and tricks to help English and Spanish speakers communicate with each other way more easily than many people imagine they can.

So thanks for visiting this website, where I hope you'll find some fun and interesting things to add to your own language journey.

Chau for now:

Martin :-)
