Whilst installing a LifeStraw water filter system in 2020 has made a huge difference to the quality of the water the Community are drinking and cooking with (including the new Jerry cans and mugs for every family too), the women however are still having to walk long, long distances each day to the nearest water hole, and having to dig deeper every time too to get the water to bring back to the village and run through the filter.
This is a tiring and demanding task (not to mention increasingly dangerous when having to descend deeper into the hole to fill the bucket!!) and ties up the women and girls who could be doing so many other fulfilling and productive activities.
One of the main benefits often cited is that girls free of this chore are able to focus on education, and we agree, although sadly at the moment this Project/ Community overall does not have access to education support. If you are reading this and you know of something and would like to collaborate however, please don't hesitate to make contact now!

In the background, we have continued to court The Samburu Project whose success at drilling wells throughout the Samburu and northern regions is unparalleled, and at last we have begun the initial steps of discovering about the formal Application process, and which we hope to initiate in January 2022.
There are many key factors and legal approvals etc, but we believe there is now a great hope.
A small amount of funds (about US$100 equivalent) will be needed for various admin/ etc at the Community level, but once submission of Application is made, and if it should be successful, then all other resources are borne by The Samburu Project charity themselves.
UPDATE: Feb 2024
Sad to report, but after many false starts, communication between all contacts 'on the ground'& Linda Hooper of Samburu Project in USA, we have had to abandon further attempts to get this application ready and submitted. Added to this, the continued insecurity and transient nature of the Community, has also made it difficult to ensure a proper location for a well drill, even if all else in the application had been approved.
